Jack and I hit the pool last night. That is to say Jack hit the pool while I ran. We're planning on a family run during Bearfest this year.
We were both awakened by some sort of crash just outside the camper this morning around 5am. The sun has been up for over an hour so I was able to take a look around the camper before venturing outside for a look. The sound remains a mystery.
We're here at the office early today awaiting our training for bear spray and bear behavior. I always look forward to the bear behavior portion as it seems to lack any sort consiatency and is more loosey goosey than study of education.....if that is possible. It also changes with the presenter....one telling you to play dead when another will urge you to fight back. What constitutes stalking and predatory behavior seems to match perfectly with a bear trying to establish dominance or neutralize a threat. It an inexact science at best.
We'll be here until noon, at which point well venture to the store to pick up dinner.
This afternoon, we'll be moving rock on the East side of the island near the Earl West water access.
Jack is reading The Odyssey for his honors English class....an experience that he likens to taking a beating. He read the abridged version several years ago after seeing "O Brother, Where-art Thou". When I commented that I was glad I didn't teach English, he said with a smile on his face "what's there to teach?" (No offense to his aunt or uncle.)
Heavy rain began to fall around noon and has yet to abate - 4pm.
