Etolin Island

I pulled Jack from bed early this morning.   He rose without objecting and we headed off to the District office to meet Bob.  While there we loaded up with supplies that we'll need for the next few days.

We headed ot to Etolin island, located to the South and East of Wrangell to inspect a new canoe portage trail being built that will link a salt water inlet and one of the many logging roads that crisscross the island.  We visited with the contractor who was there grading the trail and we walked the entire length of the portage route.  The crew from Alaska Crossings was camping in the forest at the edge of the bay with a group of kids.

Alaska Crossings takes young adults with mental issues or with troubled backgrounds on extended excursions into the Alaskan backcountry to help them develop the confidence and coping skills required to live an independent life.

Our afternoon consisted of helping the road engineer locate culvert that was either slated to be replaced or had recently been replaced by the contractor.  We came back to Wrangell in the early afternoon.   Jack and I hit the store and headed back to Nemo to complete our stops at the neighboring sites.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day.   I hate to say that it was too hot but it was TOO HOT!     Jack and I built a fire and grilled hamburgers and sweet potatoes for dinner.   After running by to check on the house and its resident pooch, we returned to Dimples and tumbled into bed.
