Jack-
Hey everybody. This is the first time that I have blogged so I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. Tips on what to do will be greatly appreciated. So, down to the point. My dad and I are going to Alaska this summer and will be creating a blog about our adventure. My dad's name is Greg and he will also be posting on this blog every once and a while. We are going to the island of Wrangell to work for the Forest Service. We do trail maintenance, split and distribute firewood, and work as camp hosts. We will be setting off for Seattle in to catch a ferry in two weeks. My father and I did this last year but neglected to make a blog. So I have to make up for lost time. I hope that you enjoy our blog!

Hey Jack & Greg too - I can't wait to read your BLOG while you are on the trip and it's a great idea to start it now. Jack, a blog is just like a journal that you let others read, so instead of being a private journal, it's a public journal and it's a way to share your wonderful experience with the world and of course, your loving friends and neighbors.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe your dad wanted you to post the picture of him with Smokey the Bear because Smokey is the mascot of the forest service or something like that and since you will both be dedicated employees this summer (of the USFS), Smokey will be right beside you all the time - figuratively, of course.
Hi Jack - It's me again! I've been thinking a little bit today about what you can include in your blog posts and here are some ideas. You could tell us about wildlife/fish/bird sightings in a given day or period of time - like daily, biweekly, or weekly - this could include types as well as numbers and of course, any other details like what the wildlife was doing, or any unusual activity. You could do the same regarding the humans in your campground - from what I've heard, there is some 'interesting' action in this department. You could mention books you read and give us a little bit of a review - maybe you could even devise a point/rating system of some type and add a few details about the story or characters to try and pique our interest - maybe we'll want to read some of the books. You could write some stories about the people of Wrangel maybe you could make them come to life for us - describe what they look like, things they say - you could even interview some of them for your blog - like the librarian or your 'boss' at the forest service office. You could talk about what you do all day everyday - how you amuse yourselves and how you pass the time and what you accomplish in a given day - heck, you could even tell us what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well. I'll bet you are getting the idea by now.....just tell us about your adventures in Alaska, even if they don't seem like that much of an adventure to you, you are there and we are not - and most of all, we are interested in YOU and your Dad!! If you need more ideas, I'll think up some more. I sure will miss you guys around the neighborhood this summer. It's always so quiet and uneventful when you're not here.
